Masquerades of Research Part I & II is a 2022 experimental feature by Padraig Robinson. Mark O’Halloran plays the infamous sociologist Laud Humphreys, whose controversial study of sexual activity in public toilets was made when “queer”’was still an insult and mom’s apple pie was devoid of spice. By 2026 standards, the excruciating duration of the 1960s avant garde is a suggestive nod to Tearoom Trade as a moment of the avant garde in the USA. It remains a cult book, well opened and passed around, gathering more than the stains of researchers pens.
